UPCOMING CLASSES

In this workshop learn methods for adding ornament to furniture and cabinetry, along with techniques for painting and finishing furniture, cabinetry and other woodwork, using natural, traditional paints and materials.
Learn to design and adapt ornament from historic sources as well as a variety of transfer techniques such as pounces, stencils, and transfers applicable to all types of ornamental painting. With these techniques you can create heirloom-quality furniture, art panels, or design entire rooms, using inspiration from European and Scandinavian painted furniture, or your own original modern designs.
Students may bring in their own small projects or work with wooden samples provided.

Classwork includes

• Adapting ornament from historic sources
• Appropriate and effective choices of materials for furniture painting, both historic and modern.
• Developing color palettes for furniture and ornament
• Designing original ornament to suit furniture or cabinetry
• Transfer techniques
• Finishing techniques for painted surfaces.
