Italianate Mural Workshop

5 day mural class | | Instructor: Pascal Amblard

Join us for a special five-day mural class emphasizing techniques for painting light-filled scenic murals, working under the expert guidance of Pascal Amblard, one of the living masters of mural decor. Participating artists will paint a custom designed, full-size trompe l'oeil mural scene featuring architecture with a view of landscape and a figure, while learning the key elements of perspective, light, shadow, and color, applicable to any style of mural work.
Classes are held in a large, fully-equipped working mural studio. Artists of all levels of experience will find plenty to challenge and advance their painting technique in this workshop.

Topics covered:
  • Practice painting technique at full scale
  • Understanding perspective
  • Rendering sky, stone, landscape, wood
  • Understanding the use of color, light, and shadow
  • Effective techniques for creating atmospheric perspective
  • Brushwork, and efficient painting style
  • Marouflage discussion for installing a canvas mural.

Cost includes all paint, a set of brushes, all materials used in class, and a full-size canvas mural panel, and a tube for transporting the finished mural.

Lynne Rutter Studio occasionally hosts decorative painting classes and specialized workshops on the finer points of decorative art, gilding, murals, and finishing, taught hands-on by established, practicing artists in a spacious working atelier. Classes emphasize traditional techniques and materials and practical methods.
