Class Status: Nearly full! - Waitlist Available
Grisaille painting in the manner of Flemish painter Marten Jozef Geeraerts (1707–1791)
French artist Pascal Amblard will teach a special 2 day painting workshop on grisaille ornament. Grisaille means painting in grey, and this is the basis for trompe l’oeil ornament that was immensely popular in the18th century. Mr. Amblard is one of the living masters of this style of painting, and has been awarded a prestigious O1 visa in order to teach this workshop.
Participating artists will paint a grisaille panel of cherubs and objects, which gives the realistic impression of bas relief plaster. This light ornamental style has many possibilities: suitable for framing, or for use as wall decor. The work will be painted at full scale, on canvas 35 inches wide, a perfect size for an overdoor panel.
The techniques used in this painting help the artist to form an understanding realistic trompe l’œil applicable to many other styles of decor.
Classwork will include transfer techniques, mixing paint into the proper values, understanding light, shadow, and form, as well as effective brushwork.
All classes are held in a large and fully-equipped working mural studio. Artists of all levels of experience will have ample opportunity to challenge and advance their technique in this workshop.
